DOP Player WordPress Plugin

After several tests and favorable comments, I can officialy launch DOP Player WordPress Plugin 1.0.
Dop Player is intended for users that want an easy to use player to integrate in their blog.
Dop Player can be easily customized from an admin panel to match your template’s colors.

Warning
You have to copy the content from dop-player folder from the zip file. If you don’t you will see only a space where the player should be.
You have in the zip file:
- ZIP/dop-player/dop-player.php
- ZIP/dop-player/dop-player/dop-player-admin.php
- ZIP/dop-player/dop-player/dop-player.swf
In your plugin forlder you should have:
- WWW/wp-content/plugins/dop-player.php
- WWW/wp-content/plugins/dop-player/dop-player-admin.php
- WWW/wp-content/plugins/dop-player/dop-player.swf

You can download it from:

  1. No matter what I try, I keep getting “invalid url” though it is the correct URL and the file is in the uploads folder which works for all other files for uploading/reading. Is there some kind of setting or encoding requirement that I’m missing? If I copy your sample code, it works perfectly; if I change just the url to point to my FLV or M4V file, it doesn’t work.

  2. I tried to use dop-player but it show only an place-holder. and the menu show “film not loaded…”? can you help me pease?
i tried an absolut path and a relativ path like ./xxxxx.mp4?
    I would be pleased!
    Thank you!
    Andi

  3. @ Jen & @ Andi

If you are using a link to the video verify if a firewall doesn’t stop your access to it.
Make shure that you copy all the content of the zip file to wp-content/plugins.

Thanks you for using DOP Player,

    Marius

    Help please!!!

  5. I installed the player and uploaded an m4v file but is just blank in the post, it is acting like the player just doesn’t work, the file is embedded, but no play video box is shown at all.

  6. @Pavels Misins & @ Dragon Blogger

You have to copy all the content of the zip file.

In the zip file you have a file, “dop-player.php”, and a folder, “dop-player”, which contains 2 files: “dop-player.swf” and “dop-player-admin.php”. You have to copy all in folder “plugins”.

  7. I am having the same problem, no video player is showing at all – just a blank space where it ought to be.

I have checked and all the above files are in the plugin directory.

    Please view previous answers.

  9. Hello

I’m experiencing the exact same problem. I inserted my mp4 video inside my post. When i publish the post, we can see a huge blank where the player should display.
    see : http://wordpress.rbodin.com/?p=6

I can assure you that the plugin has been ENTIRELY uploaded. I checked the plugin files as you said, and everything is ok.

Is there anything else to configure ? an issue with the hosting ?
    What’s happening ?

Thank you very much in advance for you help.

    Best Regards.

    Richard

  10. Hey admin,

I am having the exact same problem as richard is (see post above.) I have tried MANY times many DIFFERENT ways to ensure EVERY file from the .zip file is transferred via FTP, wordpress installer, cron job script, etc. I have literally tried everything and it will not create a video window within my post for me when I go to new post -> add video and select my file. Please: Any help or advise you can provide would be of great help.

    Thank you so much!

    -Joe

  11. Hello everybody! I found that file ‘dop-player.swf” in structure of files unpacked from ‘dop-player.1.0.zip’ to wp plugins foldershould be different. There is : ‘dop-player\dop-player\dop-player.swf’ Shuld be: ‘dop-player\dop-player.swf’. Then movie clips are loaded. Greets

  12. Ditto problem to the rest – I know the recent WP upgrade did break a number of plug-ins… could that be the problem? I am on 2.8.4. Ditto to the rest as well -all 3 files accounted for & I see the blank space but not the video. I am uploading 3g2

    Thanks!

    Heather

  13. Um… I am getting nothing to work. Structure seems to be correct. I see the admin panel, but when I try and Add a video.. not even the player appears in the post.
    WordPress 2.7.1

  14. To all: Animag has it correct. I had the same problem. To fix the problem copy the file plugins\dop-player\dop-player.swf to plugins\dop-player\dop-player.swf and your videos will show up.

Hopefully the owner can fix this?

  15. Small edit to that last comment:

    Copy -> plugins\dop-player\dop-player\dop-player.swf to plugins\dop-player\dop-player.swf

If your videos are not showing up.

  16. DOP player is working great for me! The only bugfix request (if possible) is to have videos not load in the background until the “play” button is clicked. I have at times up to 3 videos on one page, and they ALL load at the same time when the page is requested and really s-l-o-w-s down site navigation.

Is there any easy way to add code to prevent dop player from loading the movie in the background until the play button is clicked?

    Thanks again for you help!

    -Joe

  17. Can someone show how you actually use the plugin? I’ve uploaded the video into my domain, now what code do I use in the HTML tab of my post to embed the video?

    Thanks,
    Mike

  18. @Mike Green

You just use “insert video” when you add a new post.

  19. Great plugin! Thank you.

  20. Hi,
Your player looks pretty good, and I would like to use it. But there is a message on the installation page “Warning: This plugin has not been tested with your current version of WordPress.”

    My WP version is 2.8.5

I hope it will be compatible soon..

  21. OK! Tested and working at WordPress 2.8.5

Joshua, thanks for the tip, it fixes the problem

  22. btw, it´s a very good player. I think it loads the flv twice as fast compared with other players. I hardly suggest to use it !
    Thanks admin ;)

  23. I just can’t figure out how to post a video with this plugin. I don’t have “insert video” anywhere in my WP. There is “Add video” (inserts a blank area where video should be – no controls, no video); an “add media” button (definitely not it), and an “insert/edit embedded media” button that plays my MOV files (without the controls) regardless of whether the plugin is even installed or not.

  24. Hello!
This plugin seems to be a great one! But I can’t get any video… I just hear the sound and see a total black image. I have moved the .swf-file out one directory, so I don’t think that’s the problem. The videos I have tried is .MP4-videos directly from my Sony Ericsson cellphone.

I’m really greatful for all your help!

    / A

  25. is there a reason why only my .mov play without sound

  26. Good plug-in.

FYI-it seems only to work when you are in Visual mode, not HTML, and will resize/reaspect your video to fit the player. If the video resizing could be an option, that would be fantasic. Otherwise, love it! Also-compatibility warning is still posted for the plug-in on the wordpress.com site, but it seems to be working fine on 2.8.5.

  27. I’ve found that I must do as previous commenters have said to get the video player to show up in the post.

    Copy -> plugins\dop-player\dop-player\dop-player.swf to plugins\dop-player\dop-player.swf

    BUT!

I still got invalid URL in the video player. To fix that, I replaced the single quotation marks with double quotation marks in the html. So..

In The Life Presents: Preacher’s Sons

    became…

In The Life Presents: Preacher’s Sons

and voila! the video played beautifully.

    Hope that helps. :)

  28. I’ve found that I must do as previous commenters have said to get the video player to show up in the post.

    Copy -> plugins\dop-player\dop-player\dop-player.swf to plugins\dop-player\dop-player.swf

    BUT!

I still got invalid URL in the video player. To fix that, I replaced the single quotation marks with double quotation marks in the html surrounding the URL. So..

    a href=’URL’

    became…

    a href=”URL”

and voila! the video played beautifully.

    Hope that helps. :)

  29. Hello;

I installed the dop player plugin, modify the file like Patrick has described, so:
    Copy -> plugins\dop-player\dop-player\dop-player.swf to plugins\dop-player\dop-player.swf

and not replace the quotation, because they are in double quotation marks yet …

    but

My Post is still blank :-(

Everyone could help me please (I use WordPress 2.8,6 version)

    Thanks by advance

  30. @ everybody
I will make an update in January, hopfly with more clear instructions on how to use it.

  31. I have a blank post too. What’s the problem?

  32. Thanks for the plugin and the tip moving the swf player to the root folder. Video player shows up fine!
However, I have video clips with different sizes. Any way to reflect this?
    Thanks for any hints!

  33. I finally got it working after noticing that the .swf file was in the wrong folder. I also have a question about video size. I have video that was shot on different cameras and will have different aspect ratios. If I change the size in the settings, will this change all videos, or just the one I’m posting? Also, it seems you have to add 40 pixels to the height to account for the controls. Is this correct?

  34. I have got the DOP Player interface appearing in my WP page/post and properly linked to the video file, but when played it does not show the image when I use MP4 or MOV formats. The audio plays fine and the streaming progress bar loads, but there is only the background color where the video should be playing.

It plays fine with FLV files, but I’d rather not use that format. I’ve tried several codecs for MP4 and MOV and none of them have worked, might be a good idea to look into compatibility issues with those…

  35. Nice plugin Marius, thank you for sharing.

It would be grat yto have an autostart option, so if you are still working on that new release let me know and if you can add it and I will bung yer a drink!

  36. The video player is displayed, but all I get to see is a black screen. I can hear the sound though.
Anyone has an idea how to solve that?

  37. Tried to get this plugin to work but gave up in the end. Manovered files around as previous messages suggest but I get absolutly nothing when I open new post and upload video etc. All I get is the URL in the post.
Maybe the problem is that I’m using 2.9.2?
    Shame – looked like a good plugin…….

  38. can i use the player on a commercial website?

  39. Hi,
I´m trying to make posts from my cell phone, sending videos using FTP, so, I don´t have the option to use the ADD video button as I would Iif I were posting from my computer. What HTML code should I write in my post so the video will be available to be played using DOP Player.

    Thanx a lot.

  40. Hi,

I really love this plug-in Marius, great job!

If you’re interested, here are the two things that I think would make this plug-in PERFECT:
    1. An option to turn off auto-load.
    2. The ability to use different player sizes for different videos OR for the player to not stretch the video to fit the frame.

Other than that, it’s really great.

    Thanks again,
    Dean

  41. Sorry for replying so late.

@live – Yes you can use it.
@Eduardo – I think will be complicated to write the code. I will take this intro consideration for the new version.

The videos have to be H.264 encoded so that Adobe Flash Player to display them.

Thanks, for all your suggestions. I’m trying to release the new version but because of my tight schedule I’m only 60% complete.

  42. Hi–

What code string will i put in my page/ post so it’ll call the video?

    say:
    [flash video=http://sample.flv]?

    thanks,
    kristine

  43. @Kristine
You simply add a video in your post/page using WordPress editor.

  44. i cant understand this it’s not working on my blog.Kindly tell me the easy way that i can play video on my blog.

    Thanks

  45. This player is awesome. Just copy the .swf to the main plugin directory.

  46. I am not able to play 3gp videos with this plugin. has anyone else had issues with 3gp?

  47. My m4a file doesn’t display. The player loads and the audio works, but the screen is black.

Is your answer above: “The videos have to be H.264 encoded so that Adobe Flash Player to display them” related?

Do you know what I might try?

    Thanks!

  48. has anyone gotten the dop player to play 3gp videos? I can’t seem to get it to work for that format…

  49. Hi,
I’ve placed the swf into the plugin folder and get the player on my blog but the video doesn’t play.
I’ve checked the URL to the mp4 file is correct but still no luck.
    Do you have any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.

  50. Can you post a link?
    Thanks

  51. You can try an encoder called SUPER.

  52. The videos have to be H.264 encoded so that Adobe Flash Player to display them.

  53. I’ve managed to successfully install the DOP Player on my website, so firstly thanks to you for the effort in making it and for the advice given by people above.

    http://www.entwinedfilms.com/blog

Placing the SWF in the different folder solved the operation problem:
    Copy -> plugins\dop-player\dop-player\dop-player.swf to plugins\dop-player\dop-player.swf

I have encoded my videos as mp4 using H.264 codec using Procoder 3.

My question is that the player appears to download the whole video before the play button becomes operational.
Is it possible to make the player Progressively Download instead?

You can see examples of this on my main wedding video website:
    http://www.entwinedfilms.com/portfolio.html

My concern is that if the video does not play within1-5 seconds people may just give up.

An intermediate fix would be to have a ‘waiting’ symbol to let the viewer know that something is happening?

    Many thanks

  54. Best WordPress video plugin for one great reason – no need to add video tags in post. Thanks for all you time on this Marius.

  55. Hello, hope all is well.

Will the plugin for WordPress allow previews for music tracks on a website? An example can be found at http://www.hypem.com.

I would appreciate a reply as soon as possible, thank you.

    Oliver

  56. Hi, I’m sorry but the player plays only videos.

  57. Thank you

  58. I have followed the suggestions of others above, and made sure that my files are all located in the correct places. I’m trying to play 3gp videos, I am able to upload them and gat a placeholder in the post, but when I try and click on the start triangle, nothing happens, also the time at the bottom of the player reads 00:00 00:00.

However if I try an flv video that works fine. Any ideas? Any help would be appreciated.

  59. Hi,
The 3qp files need to be encoded with H.264 video codec.

  60. Marius,
Thanks for the reply, I now have the videos playing but no sound, any ideas?

  61. The sound must be encoded with AAC audio codec.

  62. Hi Marius,
Do you have any suggestions regarding my earlier post about the video progressively loading?
    Thanks in advance
    Jamie

  63. Hi Jamie,
The player does progressive download with the video.
